There is a new face on the Katy Trail and if you haven’t met him yet, be sure to say hello. Jerry Stembridge joined Friends of the Katy Trail in May and has been doing a fantastic job as Trail Manager.
Before working for the Friends of the Katy Trail, Jerry worked private security in the neighborhood – a job he still holds in addition to his hard work on the Trail. His maintenance experience comes from his past work at the Fort Worth Boat Club which prepared him for the long hours in this Texas heat. Jerry is certified in both CPR and First Aid and while we hope he never needs to put these skills to work on the Trail, they are great qualifications to have.
In addition to his daily duties like making sure the dog waste dispensers are full and the fountains are clean and in working condition, Jerry has played a key role in the new landscaping at Snyder’s Union and has refurbished many of the benches and light covers along the Trail.
Jerry says his favorite part of working on the Katy Trail is being able to work outside in the sunshine and interacting with our friendly community. “I was really surprised by how nice everyone on the Trail is. People stop me all the time just to say hello and introduce themselves, or to mention an area that needs attention. It really shows just how passionate our community is about the Katy Trail.”
If you see something that needs attention on Katy Trail feel free to let Jerry know if you see him on the golf cart. Or you can always contact our office at 214-303-1180 or Office@KatyTrailDallas.org. We always appreciate hearing from our Trail users.
