Do you love the Katy Trail as much as I do? The Katy Trail not only gives us a great place to exercise and enjoy, but it has also dramatically increased the property value in surrounding areas. I think we can all agree that it is a wonderful asset for our City.
As a member of the Board of Directors of the Friends of the Katy Trail, I have the privilege of chairing this year’s Annual Support Campaign with a goal to raise $150,000 during the month of October. As you may know, the Katy Trail is a 3.5 mile long hike and bike trail that runs through the most densely populated area of Dallas and it’s a model for other great trails across our nation.
What you may not know about the Friends of the Katy Trail:
* Friends of the Katy Trail is the nonprofit organization that keeps the trail in peak condition for the City of Dallas. We must raise $1 million each year to provide improvements, landscape maintenance, irrigation, lights, dog waste bags and off duty police officers to patrol the trail.
* The City of Dallas provides NO funding to the Katy Trail. The trail is maintained by private donations.
* Each week, more than 20,000 people use the Katy Trail and that number is projected to increase dramatically when the Katy Trail connects to the Trinity Strand on the south end and to the White Rock Trail on the north end.
With the growing density on the trail, it is important that we invest in the longevity of this great urban, linear park so it will continue to be a landmark destination for years to come. Please consider making a gift to the Friends of the Katy Trail today!
