The goal of Friends of the Katy Trail is to keep the Trail clean, safe, and beautiful! Safety always comes first, and it takes the cooperation and attention of everyone walking, running, cycling, commuting, and gathering on the Trail to maintain safety.
As the Katy Trail gets busier in the spring and summer months, it is even more important to work together to keep our Trail safe. Based on the recent feedback from our community, here are our Top Trail Safety Tips:
1) Be aware at all times! This includes no sudden changes in direction and turnarounds and keeping earbud volume at a sensible level.
2) Control bike speed–never faster than 10 miles per hour.
3) Choose your path – pedestrians, it is best to stay on the red soft-surface path when possible.
4) Leash your dogs. Dogs must be on a leash on the Katy Trail, and leashes should be kept short.
5) Walking groups should be no more than two people side by side to leave room for cyclists to pass safely.
