Winter Trail Walking Tips

Cold weather is on the way! Here are some tips for a great winter Trail walk.

·    Dress for the weather!   Layering will help to keep your body heat insulated and make walking more comfortable.

·    Cover extremities - head, hands, and feet.   Wearing hats, gloves, scarves, and thick socks will greatly improve your walking experience on a chilly day.

·    Stay hydrated.   Even in the wintertime, when we are physically active, we can become dehydrated from lack of fluids.

·    Don’t forget to stretch.   Before any physical activity, it is important to make sure your muscles are prepared.   Walking is no different.   Stretch your leg muscles as well as your back and core before setting out on the Trail - your body will thank you later!

·    If you walk at night, wear reflective clothing so that you are easier to identify.   Also, try to walk with a buddy.

·    Watch for slippery conditions.   Wet leaves on the ground can sometimes be as slick as icy patches.
