This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Katy 5k so we’re going to make this our best one yet! What sets the Katy 5K apart from other area races is that this race is held in the evening and followed by an amazing party – the Katy Picnic! Participants will enjoy food from more than 50 local restaurants and of course our presenting sponsor, Michelob Ultra, will be pouring beers. Food and drinks, including 2 Michelob Ultras, are included in your registration!
As for entertainment we are delighted to announce that Downtown Fever (an Emerald City Band!) will be performing on the Michelob Ultra Stage at the Katy Picnic!
Only race participants are admitted to the Katy Picnic. If you would like to attend, but not run the race, you MUST REGISTER FOR THE RUN. Your race bib is your ticket in to the Katy Picnic.
Each year this event sells out with 5,000 participants so REGISTER EARLY.
Our course is sanctioned by USA Track & Field
Are dogs allowed?
No, now that the race has been moved to June it’s too hot and crowded for dogs. We have seen some dogs get seriously injured and overheated in the past so for their own safety we ask that you leave Fido at home.
Is the race timed and are there awards?
Yes, this is a timed run and medals are given to those that come in 1st-3rd in their age range.
Where do I pick up my race packet?
Race packets will be available at Luke’s Locker – 3046 Mockingbird – Saturday, June 2nd – Wednesday, June 6th. Please pick-up your packet prior to the event!
I just want to spectate and/or enjoy the picnic; do I need to register for the race?
Yes, your bib number is your ticket into the Katy Picnic following the race. If you want to partake in the music, food and drink, you must register as a runner to get a bib. Whether or not you actually run or walk the 5K – that is up to you.
Are strollers allowed?
You are more than welcome to bring your little ones in a stroller. We just ask that you start the race near the back of the pack where it is less crowded for the safety of your little one and others around you.
I have a bib, but I can no longer participate. Can I get a refund or transfer my bib to someone else?
Because this event is a fundraiser, we do not offer refunds. Please consider this your donation to Friends of the Katy Trail. Bibs can be transferred to other individuals. They can run under your name or if they are serious about running and being timed, contact our office and we can have the bib changed to their name.
What streets will be closed in the area?

Where can I park?
Parking is available at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital and across Reverchon Park at the Heritage Auction House Building.
How can I be sure I get the race shirt size I requested?
Race shirts are disbursed at Packet Pick-Up on a first come, first serve basis. Come early to make sure you get the size you desire.
Each year the Katy 5K sells out with 5,000 participants. What sets the Katy 5K apart from other area races is that this race is held in the evening and followed by an amazing party – the Katy Picnic! After the run, all participants gather in Reverchon Park for free food from over 50 area restaurants, Michelob Ultra, and other drinks – both alcoholic and non. The event also features live music and loads of activities and freebies from participating sponsors. This large, urban-active Dallas audience makes this event one of the best opportunities to market your company.
